Quaking Puddings & Cackling Farts
Each Monday (from July 10 - September 4, 2017) we’ll post an original 17th century recipe and challenge you to re-create it in your own kitchen.
Simple... right? Guess again. With their bizarre ingredients, missing measurements, and directions only a goode huswife could follow, 17th century recipes are anything but simple.
But don’t dismay! This year we're making it easier than ever for you to join in the fun. Along with the original recipe, we'll also post our best guess at a 21st century translation. Plus, back at the Colony’s 17th century kitchen, we’ll be cooking right along with you. For the next six days, we’ll share our successes, failures and lessons learned via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and/or the "Tips & Tricks" section of this website. And we’re hoping you’ll do the same.
At the end of each week, we’ll pool our results and post a crowd sourced solution to the recipe challenge ... along with the next week’s recipe. And to keep things interesting, each week, as our collective skills and confidence grows, the recipes will get just a little bit harder.
Did We Mention There's Prizes?
Again this year, we're offering some great weekly prizes. To enter, simply post a photo of your colonial culinary creation on the Colony’s Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter feed, or post a helpful tip in the comments section of this website. At the end of each week, we’ll randomly draw a winner. But that's not all ....
All entries will also be added to our grand prize draw for a KitchenAid, 10 piece, tri-ply copper cookware set valued at $500! The more recipes you try and post, the more chances you'll have to win.
So what are you waiting for? On you marks, get set .... uhh ... dewte on be eggys?
A great big HUZZAH! to Ferryland Foodland for their support of the 2017 Great Colonial Cook Off.
